Elena Kalis is an underwater photographer based in the Bahamas. Elena took up photography 6 years ago as a new way of expressing herself. She’s now living on a small tropical island spending her time in and under the water where she can experiment with her camera.
Before she got into photography, Elena was a traditional artist and used brushes and paint on canvas. Then digital camera and software offered her huge opportunities for new images that were previously impossible to produce.
Elena Kalis was attracted to do underwater photography because the environment of the underwater world is fascinating to explore.
“The dreamlike weightless atmosphere allows for al kinds of setups that are impossible out of the water.”

This fantastic underwater cave was used in the filming of two James Bond movies and is a must-see for divers and snorkelers.

She even made a concept of underwater Alice in Wonderland titled Looking Glass.
For those wondering what camera and equipment Elena is using, she’s using a Canon 5D and 5D MarkII. She uses an underwater camera or a underwater housing with underwater lighting if there’s not enough illumination.
